After 6 years in porn, Samantha Bentley is jumping behind the decks.

Talk to Samantha Bentley at length, as I did, and you’ll more than likely be left with the same impression of her as I was: a talented model turned DJ with drive and noticeable eagerness to do huge things in the music scene. Appearing in season 4 and 5 of Game of Thrones, Bentley’s enjoyed a successful 6-year career in porn and is now channeling her inner musician into bass music. She’s far from your usual DJ.
Samantha gave me her latest mix to listen to and told us a bit more about her career and what’s to come in future.
You’ve done so many things in your career so far, how would you describe yourself?
Jack of all trades, master of none… only kidding. I think ambitious; that’s how I would describe myself. When people ask what I do, I tend to have trouble defining my ‘career’ because I have my finger in so many pies, essentially I like to be successful (who doesn’t) and when I achieve what I want to I think of new things I can do. I don’t like to be bored and do nothing, days off don’t tend to exist in my world and that’s how I like it!
What lead you to decide to leave something you’ve been successful in?
It was never a decision to leave, I would never ever turn my back on an industry that gave me the platform to do so many things, and I love everything I’ve achieved, don’t ever get that twisted.
Music has been a passion of mine since I was a child, I began playing classical piano at the age of 5 in the local church, after begging my parents for a harp and being told it was too expensive. I then started singing, I was a bit of stage kid, I did a bunch of musicals and shows, I continued to play piano and sing through school and college, I studied music theory and history, although in the end I wish I hadn’t because it did take a lot of the fun out of playing piano.
I have been writing music since I was a kid but I was constantly told, music is too hard to make a living in, do something else… be a teacher, be a nurse… so obviously, I did porn. Right? I’ve been quietly DJing private events and working with producers for the past couple of years alongside my other ventures and now it just feels like the right time.
Who inspires you within music?
So many people. My taste is incredibly varied- Lana Del Rey and Banks are my current voice crushes, I love their lyrics and dark miserable style. Electronically, I love everything: Alison Wonderland and Anna Lunoe are doing at the moment. Those girls are killing life.
Growing up for me was all about rock music as my dad was a huge music fan and started taking me to shows and festivals from a very young age. I love ‘Manic Street Preachers’, ‘Extreme’, and ‘Deftones’. It’s the most bizarre collection of bands, I know. I can’t explain it.
Have you ever thought about starting your set with a Game of Thrones theme tune remix?
The first EVER show I DJed I opened with a ‘Game Of Thrones’/’Voodoo People’ mash-up, but it was ironic, a bit of a joke. I don’t think I would do it again; I would hate for any one to think I was being serious by doing it. It’s a bit arrogant, especially considering my role in the show was rather small. I also accidentally stopped the track half way through due to sheer nerves and my dancing hands.
